Lettuce growing region

Lettuce has the shortest cycle in our range, which makes it the easiest group to schedule around a customer requirement.

Growing conditions

Mild highland temperatures are the single most important condition for leafy greens — heat pushes plants to bolt and degrades leaf quality. This is where the highlands hold a clear advantage over lowland production for this group.

Season

Harvest runs year-round, with the best quality and volumes from November to March. During the rainy season, protected area is prioritised to hold leaf quality.

Cultivation and picking

Because cycles are short, sowing is staggered so supply is continuous rather than bunched. One protocol covers variety, irrigation, permitted inputs and pre-harvest intervals — for leafy vegetables the last of these matters most.

After harvest

Greens are cooled as early as possible, since leaves lose water very quickly once cut. They are then graded, cleaned and packed in a cool environment, with the cold chain held unbroken through to delivery.
