Durian is the most demanding item in our fresh fruit range, because quality depends almost entirely on picking time and post-harvest handling.
Growing conditions
Contracted durian orchards sit in the Lam Dong highlands, typically 800 to 1,000 metres above sea level. The mild temperatures and wide day-night range mean the flesh accumulates dry matter more slowly but more evenly than in the lowlands.
Season
The main season runs May to September, peaking June to August. Outside that window we offer frozen durian pulp rather than accepting fresh orders we cannot reliably ship.
Cultivation and picking
Member households farm to one agreed protocol: permitted inputs, fertilising schedule and pre-harvest intervals are all recorded in the orchard log. Cutting time is decided by fruit age and flesh maturity, and no orchard is stripped in one pass — each tree is picked over several rounds.
Picking maturity differs by market: sea freight is cut earlier than air freight, and fruit destined for freezing is cut riper than fruit sold fresh.
After harvest
Fruit reaches the preparation area the same day to be cleaned, graded by weight and appearance, checked for defect rate and packed to the customer specification. Fruit that meets the processing grade is de-pulped and rapidly frozen.
